Interview Project
Having analyzed the interviews that we conducted during the conference in Oberweisenthal we can say that English programmes of Czech Universities and the programme offered at Chemnitz University of Technology cannot be compared directly. This is owed to the fact that the Czech universities, represented at the EAP conference, have a different teaching focus. Whereas almost all Czech universities train their students to become school teachers, the University of Technology in Chemnitz has a broader focus and the students here will find employment in different sectors. Graduate students at Chemnitz University of Technology can for example become translators, editors or teachers at private schools.
The interviews, conducted at the conference, concentrated on different aspects such as employment chances, as well as subjective views of the students and lecturers. Although it turned out that a direct comparison of the different English programmes of all participating universities is not truly possible, this project succeeded in highlighting personal opinions about the different English programs and their advantages and disadvantages. These findings might be of great interest for students of English, who are planning to spend a semester abroad in the Czech Republic.
