While doing the research on the different Czech universities, which were represented at the conference in Oberwiesenthal, Christina came across some problems. The language barrier was the most difficult problem to solve, as none of the team members understood Czech. The webpages of the universities that Christina focused on, namely České Budějovice and Plzeň, are mainly written in Czech and even though the option to switch to English was provided, the webpage remained the same, with no translation at all. Using the web browser Google Chrome helped partly in resolving this issue, as one feature of the browser is to translate entire web pages. While a Google Chrome translation can be rather flawed with regard to grammar and syntax, the translation helped to gain some understanding of the content of the webpages and allowed Christina to gather the necessary information for our webpage.
Furthermore, the information of the English study programmes was organised differently on the different webpages. On some it took the form of a course list, while on others it was displayed in form of a chart. As we did not want to confront readers of our webpage with those different forms of organization, Christina decided to combine all the information she found on the English study programs of the different universities in a unified form.
The fact that the website of the University of Plzeň’s English department was being updated while we were working on our project and therefore unavailable, made Christina’s research somewhat difficult. However, a link was provided and Christina was able to gather the needed information.
The last problem Christina had to face was that some of the information provided seemed to be incomplete or irrelevant for our webpage. Christina therefore had to reduce the information to the essentials that can now be seen on this website.
